The Nominating Committee of the Capital Area Realtors® Federal Credit Union (“Credit Union”) recommends the following candidates to fill the vacancies on the 2024 Board of Directors:

Balaram Owens (incumbent). With over two decades of expertise in the dynamic residential real estate market of the DC Metro Area, Balaram Owens’ career began with a significant nine-year tenure at Keller Williams as a Market Center Administrator, followed by a fruitful transition to RLAH Real Estate, where he has been a dedicated full-time agent for the past nine years. Mr. Owens’ journey in real estate is marked by the successful sale of hundreds of homes, specializing in serving a diverse range of clients across Montgomery and Frederick County. Mr. Owens’ unique qualifications extend beyond traditional real estate services, as he is also a licensed home improvement contractor. This comprehensive skill set allows Mr. Owens to offer a holistic approach to real estate, emphasizing advising, serving, and negotiating to ensure clients are well-informed, their interests are at the forefront, and their deals are negotiated with utmost proficiency. Mr. Owens is deeply committed to guiding his clients through every step of their real estate journey, leveraging his vast knowledge and extensive network to achieve their real estate aspirations.

Amit K. Sharma (incumbent). Amit K. Sharma graduated cum laude in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland after just two years enrollment in Government Politics and Psychology. Mr. Sharma was awarded his Juris Doctorate from the George Washington University Law School in 2005. While at the George Washington University, Mr. Sharma completed a judicial internship for the Honorable John Ramsey Johnson in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia while attending law school. Mr. Sharma also completed a judicial internship for the Honorable Alexander Williams, Jr., in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Mr. Sharma served as a member of the George Washington University Law School’s Public Justice Advocacy clinic. Mr. Sharma is admitted to practice before the Maryland Bar, the Bar of the District of Columbia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the District of Columbia Circuit Court, and is a practicing litigator. Mr. Sharma also serves on the Peer Review Committee for the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland.   Mr. Sharma is a licensed real estate broker in the State of Maryland and serves as a member on the Montgomery County Board of Appeals.

Surinder (Sonny) Tohan (incumbent). Sonny Tohan holds over 32 years of experience in the field of information technology solutions as CEO of Mac Business Solutions, leading a team of skilled specialists dedicated to developing the most effective solutions for any Apple product and system needs, serving enterprises, government entities, and small businesses. Mr. Tohan’s customer-centric values and commitment to going above and beyond for his clients has earned his company the position of leading Mid-Atlantic Apple Premier Partner and Service Provider. Mr. Tohan also owns profitable real estate holdings that he manages himself in Maryland and Florida. When he is not testing the boundaries of technological innovation and guiding advancements in his ever-dynamic field, Mr. Tohan is spending time with family or hanging out with his best furry friend, and office favorite, Ivy the husky.

Elections will take place at the Annual Meeting on April 26, 2024, at noon at the address below.  During the Annual Meeting, the Credit Union will not conduct the election by ballot and nominations will not be allowed from the floor.
